1. CONVENE PARK COMMISSION MEETING
Chair Hirner convened the park tour meeting at 6:11 p.m.
A. Roll Call
Present: Chair Hirner, Commissioners Gallivan and Heinz; City Planning
Director Darling; Public Works Director Brown; Park and Rec
Director Grout; Mayor Labadie; Councilmembers Callies and
Johnson (arrived at 6:43)
Absent: Commissioner Schmid, Cohen
2. PARK TOURS
Silverwood Park:
Items that were discussed during the tour:
Planning Director explained that there would be a safety railing above the retaining
wall near the hillside slides and that the construction should be completed in a
couple of weeks.
It was asked if a picnic table could be placed by the basketball court
Christmas Lake Access:
Items that were discussed during the tour:
Public Works Director Brown and Planning Director Darling explained the AIS and
parking lot updates. Brown updated the Commissioner on the security camera and
that one will be installed closer to the boat launch. This should be implemented on
th
the 18 of July.
A suggestion was made that the median could become an area for plants and
become a part of the adopt-a-garden program.
The rumble strip at the end of the dock is laying in the water.

Manor Park:
Items that were discussed during the tour:
Public Works Director Brown mentioned the water spigots were not working again and
he is working with a plumbing contractor to find a solution.
It was asked the Eagle Scout project list to be emailed to Mayor Labadie. Park & Rec
Director Grout stated that she has also emailed the list to the Boy Scouts.
Public Works Director talked about the pond and as of right now the cleaning of the pond
is on hold and he is working with IPM to see what bee friendly chemicals can be used.
It was also discussed that the lighting at the park for the pond be addressed as a couple
of the lights need to be updated.
South Shore Community Park:
Items that were discussed during the tour:
There was discussion on what more could be done at this park. Public Works Director
Brown brought up that with the parking lot being on a slope, it would require regrading to
use the area for a court or other similar purpose. He suggested that when other city
projects generate material that it could be used to provide a level area for future
development. But then it would stay that way until it was decided what the park should
have.
Other:
Park Commissioner Gallivan mentioned that mini donuts and cider trucks were at a store and
that this may be a good idea for movie in the park. Mayor Labadie also mentioned that the
Arboretum had this as well.
