RESOLUTION 24-024
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION TO THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD FOR TWO BENCHES
ON THE SMITHTOWN POND PARCEL
WHEREAS, Mary Jo Schmid, daughter of Joanne H. Schmid, submitted a donation request of
$8,000 for the installation of two benches with memorial plaques on concrete slabs to be
installed within the Smithtown Ponds parcel in the City of Shorewood, County of Hennepin; and
WHEREAS, the Joanne H. Schmid family owned the parcel prior to the City of Shorewood
acquiring it in 2018 for the construction of the stormwater ponds; and
WHEREAS, as part of the Purchase Agreement it states that if a trail or seating area is
constructed that the seller shall be able to name a feature in honor of the Schmids; and
WHEREAS, the Schmid family would like to install a sign on the parcel naming it "Pebble Brook
Farm" or similar, as it was referred to by their family during their ownership; and
WHEREAS, the Parks Commission shall be tasked with determining the appropriate
implementation of the naming and signing on the parcel; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD,
MINNESOTA AS FOLLOWS:
1. Hereby accepts the donation of $8000 for the installation of two benches with memorial
plaques on concrete slabs from the Schmid family.
2. Directs staff to order, construct, and install the facilities in accordance with city practices and
directs the Parks Commission to determine the appropriate implementation of the naming and
signing of the parcel.
