04-22-24 CC Reg Mtg Agenda PacketBOY SCOUTS: the scouts had a good time. Only feedback they had is they_areused to cuttinq down the buckthorn but I don't think that was a complaint. Thank you for the invitation. VOLUNTEER: waiver forms should have a place for volunteer to enter their email -address for future activity in the parks or other events. 4 maybe 5 attended from e-mail and/or social media posts. This means Communication needs to improve social media posts "call to action message". (Recommend 3 separate emails or social media posts spaced 3 days apart 8 — 10 days ahead of an event with more compelling messaging). I think a plus to Saturday was to have a few defined areas for groups to work on. Cleaning entire "islands!' robably gave a sense of accomplishment. You may want to try P to guide people to work on other areas and try to co •te them... that being said I think it was good how people spaced out to avoid too much stumbling over each other. I was walking through today and they are chipping. I am wondering if they are planning to spread the chips out (move the output chute around) so it doesn't end up with big random piles... they are just starting, but the chips seem to be piling up. VOLUNTEER: I thought it was a positive event! Having residents pitching in on park improvements & interacting with other residents brings about feelings of civic pride and stronger community. It does more than just save the city time/$. I found it difficult to locate the event online. The city could post on social media (Next Door), place it on front web page, send emails of thanks, etc. Only thing I might change is, in the beginning, recommend working in r)airs/qroups and illustrate an area of what "it should look like." In the beginning, it felt like peopleweren't sure how to stack the piles and when a section was"000d enough.-" Maybe a couple pics to pass around would help. VOLUNTEER: I thought it was a great event! And perfect weather always helps, so definitely keep that. The only thing I could possibly think of is checking in with different groups to make sure everyone's on the same page direction -wise. I talked to several people who were picking up every tiny twig. So ma be a little more instruction at the front end too? Also, I have DNR handouts I could have brought and I could also give a short talk on the maple basswood ecosystem and native plants. It was cool to see some sage and other plants coming up! VOLUNTEER: I thought it went extraordinarily well! The only improvements for next year are wider dissemination of the event (not sure how, but maybe on NextDoor, and on the Shorewood website, mailer, and electronic announcement board). The other thing might be to have desio-ate-dareas (pfbritized). We all Just picked a spot to start, but perhaps we didn't get to the most important areas and left those for last? Lastly, only those of us who had heard your presentation understood how this event fit into a biggest p icture. Most of the folks I spoke to did not know that this was the first step in a "coordinated" effort with the city to not only rid us of buckthombut to restore the -wooded areas • healthOy_pW etc. TOLIRTEER: I thought the clean up event went well even in the shorter time I was there. The initial intro meeting was a go-0 rem precautions. Providing water was a very thorough touch! Your thoughtful notes of Thank You afterwards are very much appreciated!! Lettin people know how much value they are to this Project -- -9 so important and you do it well. So we have another date? MoVIRKRIMMI VOLUNTEER: we thought it went well done. The water was nice to have. Maybe also have coffee and doughnuts next time? VOLUNTEER: I was wondering why it's resident's responsiWli to pick up the mess the city created.
