RESOLUTION 24-069
A RESOLUTION APPROVING METRONET FIBER OPTIC DEPLOYMENT PLAN TO PLACE FACILITIES ON
EXISTING POLES AND STRUCTURES
WHEREAS, Metronet is proposing to deploy fiber optic cable throughout Shorewood and provide
internet services to residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, Metronet proposes to deploy fiber optic cable both overhead where existing overhead
utilities exist, and underground where overhead facilities are not present; and
WHEREAS, City Right of Way Code Section 901.05 requires utilities installed after 2018 to be placed
underground unless otherwise approved by the Council; and
WHEREAS, Section 901.18 Subd 1 further requires undergrounding by telecommunication
companies, but also states that telecommunication right-of-way users may attach equipment and
facilities to existing poles and structures maintained by a service or utility service; and
WHEREAS, City Code Section 901.19 Subd. 2 requires above ground telecommunications equipment
and facilities to be relocated underground at the City's request and at the owner's expense; and
WHEREAS, Metronet has submitted plans to the City identifying the areas and locations in
Shorewood where it plans to deploy fiber optic cable both underground and on existing poles and
structures; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the deployment of additional fiber optic facilities throughout
Shorewood is a benefit to residents that will provide additional telecommunications options and
result in improved service and competition.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD,
MINNESOTA that it approves of Metronet's plan to deploy fiber optic cable throughout the City of
Shorewood both attaching equipment and facilities to existing poles and structures and locating
facilities and equipment underground where existing poles and structures do not already exist.
