Zoning(Zoning Permits) Earlier this year the City adopted an ordinance establishing a system of zoning permits for various items regulated by the Zoning Code that were not addressed in the Building Code. In adopting the ordinance, three items were removed from the amendment: 1) fences; 2) patios and sidewalks; and 3) temporary signs. The Planning Commission held a public hearing at its last meeting to consider changes to the fence regulations. Another public hearing has been scheduled for 17 September to consider revisions to the Code relative to patios, sidewalks and temporary signs. The proposed revisions are shown in red type as follows: Temporary Signs — Zoning Permit Sectionl201.03 Subd. 11. " f. Permit issuance; fees. (1) No sign shall be erected in the City of Shorewood until a permit to do so has been approved by the Zoning Administrator and issued by the office of the Building Official (signs stipulated in b.(1) above shall be exempt from this requirement). No permit shall be granted until the necessary fee has been paid and until the Building Official, or staff representative, has made a preliminary inspection of the sign before installation and has ascertained that the sign and method of installation comply with all requirements of this chapter. Following permit issuance and sign erection, the Building Official shall make a final inspection of the sign, and if it complies in every respect with the minimum standards set forth in this chapter, shall endorse on the permit his or her certificate of approval. Temporary signs as provided for in c.4. of this Subdivision, shall require a zoning permit pursuant to Section 1201.07 of this Code." Patios/Sidewalks — Zoning Permit Section 1201.02 (Definitions) "PATIO. A paved space that adjoins a residence and is used for dining or recreation. SIDEWALK. A pedestrian way, public or private, designed or intended for the principal use of pedestrians." These changes, as may be revised by the Commission, will be combined with the previous changes to the fence regulations and forwarded to the City Council.
