1. Approval of the Minutes of April 24, 2001
No action could be taken without a quorum.
2. Discussion of LID application
• No discussion took place regarding LID.
3. Reports
• Confirmation of Dates for Open House (Berndt)
Committee members present had nothing new to report. They did express their concern over
representation at the Open House during Art in the Park on June 9, 2001, since none of the three at
tonight's meeting would be able to attend the Open House that day.
• Report of Garden Awards (Kircher and Berndt)
Kircher had no report and hopes to meet with Berndt soon.
• Discussion regarding progress of Gideon Glen (Dan Dickel)
Consultant Dickel reported on the progress of Gideon Glen. During his most recent visits, Dickel noted
that very little runoff reaches the wetland via the culverts and most of the water sheets across the road
from the Mason Properties Smithtown Crossing parking lot. Due to this, and the new town home
construction nearby, the water flow has been impacted and more planning will need to be done. Dickel
still hopes to share his open land report with the Committee in June.
Dickel also shared his rough cost estimates for the Gideon Glen project. The City of Shorewood will be
requesting $70,000 from the MCWD budget and planning committee on May 29th. This amount should
• adequately cover the cost of the retention ponds, gazebo, dams and burms, trails and wooden walkways,
and plantings. Pini inquired about the breakdown of the expenditure. While Dickel did not have the
precise figures in front of him, he recalled roughly that $12,000 would go towards plantings, $15,000 in
• dams and burros, as well as, other funds designated for trails, walkways, storyboards and gazebo.
• Status Report - vacant land inventory (Dan Dickel)
Once again, Dickel hopes to give a full report to the LCEC in June or July. Some informal discussion
ensued regarding the Carmichael Salvage Yard area.
4. Follow-up discussion to May 19, 2001 Spring Clean-up Day
Kircher, Woodruff and Pini concurred that the Compost Bin pick-up and Clean-up Day was a success.
They commented that over 200 residents showed up to pick-up their coinPost bins at the public works
building and were very appreciative of the effort and gracious about the wait.
Kircher pointed out that 38 orders had not been picked up and that she was unsure of how to handle this.
Although 15 residents called after the fact asking how to get them, the City cannot host another pick-up
day and may need to return the bins to Hennepin County for residents to pick up there. Kircher will call
Dan Ries of Hennepin County to find out the next step. She will then speak to Engineer Brown about
storage space and access to these items, and then contact the no-shows to either have girl scouts deliver or
tell the residents where to pick the bins up from Hennepin County.
5. Set Meeting Dates and Times
According to the Minutes of April 24, 2001, the next scheduled LCEC Meeting will take place on July 10,
2001, at 5:45 P.M. In the meantime, volunteers will be needed to work at the Open House on June 9th at
• the Art in the Park Festival, and since no discussion of this occurred this evening, arrangements will need
to be made with Paula Berndt.
6. Adjournment
There was a general consent to adjourn the LCEC Meeting of May 22, 2001, at 6:45 P.M.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,
Kristi B. Anderson
