87-069 RESOLUTION NO. 69-87 . RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF SHOREWOOD TO COORDINATE RECYCLING EFFORTS WITH OTHER SOUTH LAKE MINNETONKA COMMUNITIES WHEREAS, the cities Tonka Bay geographic Minnetonka; of Deephaven, and Woodland area commonly and Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, are contiguous and comprise a referred to as South Lake WHEREAS, the South Lake communities share a concern over an imminent reduction in the availability of solid waste landfills in the metropolitan area and a subsequent increase in wast disposal costs; and WHEREAS, the South Lake communities recognize that a significant portion of the area's solid waste stream is recoverable and recyclable, and that recycling has been mandated by the State of Minnesota, the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County; and . WHEREAS, representatives from each of the South Lake cities have met to discuss the issues related to recycling and have agreed that it would be in the best interest of all area residents to coordinated public efforts to promote, publicize and schedule an effective recycling program in each of the South Lake cities; and WHEREAS, said representatives further agreed that it would be in each city's best interest to retain the right to contract individually with a qualified recycler capable of providing services in concert with the efforts of other cities to promote, publicize and schedule their recycling programs: NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Shorewood, that in cooperation with the other five c1t1es which comprise the South Lake Minnetonka area, the City of Shorewood will offer curbside recycling services to all one-and-two-family homes on the first Friday of each month and will offer drop-off recycling services on the third Saturday of each month beginning in the summer of 1987; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Shorewood hereby agrees to coordinate its recycling promotions and publicity with the other five South Lake communities while reaffirming its right to contract individually with a qualified recycler to provide service within its own municipal boundaries. .
