Update on Selected Drainage Problems
This memo is meant to provide you with an update on two drainage problem areas that have required
additional attention this spring. Both areas are landlocked basin that required pumping after snow melt
and the early spring rains. Draft feasibility reports have been prepared that outline possible solutions
for reducing the potential for flooding in these areas. At this time, we are presenting these draft reports
to stimulate discussion on how to proceed with these, and other drainage related, projects.
Boulder Bridge Pond
As you may recall, this report was previously discussed by Council in March of 2005. Since that time,
Staff has met with representatives of the Boulder Bridge Homeowners Association to discuss this
proj ect.
Excerpts from the feasibility report are included as attachments to this memo. The figure labeled
Figure 3 shows the area tributary to Boulder Bridge Pond. The figure labeled Figure lA shows the
recommended option to reduce flooding at this pond.
The original cost estimate has been revised to include replacement of the hedge adjacent to Howard's
Point Road and to reflect increased construction costs. Table 1 presents the revised estimate.
Table 2 is the preliminary assessment roll based on the revised costs. It uses a 50-50 cost split
between the City and the properties with area tributary to the pond.
Minnetonka Drive / Marv Lake
Another are of concern is the Mary Lake watershed. Water levels on this lake have risen close to three
homes that area adjacent to the lake. The lowest home has a low building opening that is at
approximately the same elevation as the overflow elevation of Mary Lake. The proposed construction

would follow the natural overflow route, which is down Clover Lane to Milmetonka Drive, south to
McLain Road, and east to the wetland south of the cul-de-sac.

Table 3 presents the cost estimate for this project based on the recommended option. Table 4 is the
preliminary assessment roll based on the cost estimate. It uses a 50-50 cost split between the City and
the properties with area tributary to the pond.
