RESOLUTION NO. 66-89 A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE FRIDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING AS A HOLIDAY AND DELETING COLUMBUS DAY WHEREAS, the City of Shorewood Employee Relationship Policy sets forth a schedule of holidays for the benefit of all eligible city employees; and WHEREAS, said schedule includes Christopher Columbus Day -- the second Monday in October as a holiday and does not include the Friday after Thanksgiving as a holiday; and WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes Section 645.44, Subd. 5 provides for cities to have the option of determining whether Columbus Day or the Friday after Thanksgiving shall be a holiday, and permits cities to conduct public business on whichever day is determined not to be a holiday; and WHEREAS, the Ci ty Council has determined that the Friday after Thanksgiving is preferable to Columbus Day as a designated holiday. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Shorewood, Minnesota, as follows: (1) Commencing in the year of 1989, the Friday after Thanksgiving shall be designated as a holiday and Columbus Day shall no longer be designated a holiday. (2) The schedule of holidays set forth in the City of Shorewood Employee Relationship Policy is hereby revised to include the Friday after Thanksgiving as a holiday and to delete Columbus Day as a holiday. (3) on Columbus Thanksgiving. Christmas Day Personal Day of Leave ** ** Requests for personal day of leave shall require three (3) days notice. Such requirement may be waived when absence of the employee will not unduly affect the functioning of the department. Personal Day of Leave may only be used after completion of six months of employment. Only one Personal Day of Leave may be taken in anyone calendar year. When New' Year's Day, January 1; or Independence Day, July 4th; or Veteran's Day, November 11th; or Christmas Day, December 25th; falls on a Sunday, the following day shall be a holiday, and when New Year's Day, January 1; or Independence Day, July 4th; or Veteran's Day, November 11th; or Christmas Day, December 25th; falls on a Saturday, the preceding day shall be a holiday.
