RE:
Work Session - Shorewood Oaks Drainage Issues
On Wednesday, August 4th, 2004, Staff conducted an open house style meeting, to provide an
opportunity for residents to meet with representatives of the City, to discuss drainage issues for
neighborhoods and individual properties.
Staff is still in the process of prioritizing each of the issues brought to the table. However, two areas
appear to have the largest cost-benefit ratios, based upon the number of parcels or', area impacted.
Theses are the Shorewood Oaks and Minnetonka Drive neighborhood issues.
WSB and Associates, has prepared a storm water analysis for the Shorewood Ponds issue. Final
revisions to the study were being completed at the time of publication. Therefore, Mr. Pete
Willenbring, ofWSB, will present the report during Monday night's work session. It should be noted
that this meeting is to be conducted at 6:00 p.m., prior ot the City Council meeting. Mr.Willenbring
will present three options. Very briefly, they include:
1. Do nothing alternative
2. City Project to extend storm sewer along the Freeman Park-Shorewood Oaks property boundary
3. Create a paved surface to minimize absorption and time water is present in the current overflow
swale within the City outlot within the Shorewood Oaks subdivision.
Mr. Willenbring will be recommending to the City Council that Alternative 2 be considered by the
City, providing the petitioners obtain the necessary easements for construction, at no cost to the City of
Shorewood.
With regards to the Minnetonka Drive storm water issues, Staff is recommending that notices be sent
next week to the residents within the neighborhood, putting them on notice that surveyors from WSB
and Associates will be in their neighborhood the week of October 4th. A similar study will be
prepared to analyze issues associated with this neighborhood.
Staffwill continue to prioritize the remaining issues. These tend to focus on individual properties.
