I have benefited gready from being on the commission. The information I have learned is immeasurable. What an eye opener of a term I have had. When I started I was just as opposed to a big grocery store as were the neighbors. I have realized that feelings, the community members, or mine will not hold up in court. I understand why I can't cement my back yard or build condominiums on my street. By knowing this information I am able to make fairly educated recommendations and to share with community members some of the reasons why things happen or do not happen. Because the commission works so well together I am also able to make a good guess as to what might happen if a neighbor comes in asking for a variance to park a large vehicle close to a fence line, or build a big house on a tiny lot. As I said when I ftrst applied, I feel it's time for me to give back to the community. I hope my time has proved useful to the city and I would like to continue on the Planning Commission for another term. Shorewood. Mn. Us Subject: Renewal of My Commissioner Status Please forgive my tardy reapplication for a second (and FULL) term as Park Commissioner! I did not realize that I was filling a partial term. Of course I would like to continue, especially since I am knee-deep in the Freeman Park Wetland enhancement project. But also I feel after only one year I have only just gotten my feet wet and am beginning to feel at home on the commission. As your training video accurately states it takes about a year to get acclimated and to understand the issues. I am continuing my education in the area of wetland restoration and have committed this year to further training in the Master Gardener program, specifically as a Tree Care Advisor. And last but not least, this is really fun and interesting. Meeting everyone and getting involved in our beautiful community in this manner has been a very meaningful experience for me and I have grown personally and professionally. I hope you will allow me to continue! Thanks for everything! Respectfully, Sue Davis 1/6/04 :/I::-J-D {p:L.l5 fm Jan 02 04 12:13p Jack E. My wife Libby and I have lived in Shorewood since 1988; we have two young adult daughters who were raised here from ages seven and eight. Briefly, my interest in serving on the planning commission stems from two more or less equal motivations: a desire to spend some of my time contributing back to my community, and an interest simply in the personal enjoyment of being involved. I do not have a specific personal agenda. I do have an awareness that as Shorewood grows and develops that the work of the planning commission is as important as ever. Issues of orderly land development, traffic flow, density impact, greenspace preservation, surface water runoff, and an overall vision for the future of our city require ongoing and rigorous stewardship. As an architect in private practice, I hope that my particular knowledge and experience may be considered an asset to the work ofthe commISSIon.
