Dear Shorewood City Council,
I would like to nominate myself for the current opening on the Park Commission.
Along with my wife and three children, I have been a resident of Shorewood for nearly 4 years, residing at
26130 Oak Leaf Trail, in the Shorewood Oaks development adjacent to Freeman Park. Prior to that we were
brief residents of Chanhassen after moving from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
My motivation for seeking the open board position is two-fold:
· As a parent of three boys, 10, 8 & 6, we are extremely active in sports and activities throughout the
area, which include many of the Shorewood parks. I have a vested interest to see that these resources are
well managed and maintained for our continued use and enjoyment. We are currently active in Baseball
(Freeman, Manitou, Cathcart, Minnewashta, Excelsior), Soccer, Lacrosse (rapidly growing sport looking to
compete with Soccer/Hockey for a place to play), Basketball, and make frequent use of the open fields, hockey
rinks, and trails.
· One of my reasons for moving to the Shorewood area was to be able to take an active part in the
community. By being active on the Park Commission, I can help make a difference in our community.
I view the role of the Park Commission as one to help the City Council manage the resources and interests of
the community. My experience as a former business owner (x2) will provide an excellent foundation for the
Park Commission.
I am currently active in the Lake Minnetonka / Excelsior Rotary, my wife is the incoming co-President of the
Minnewashta PTO, and we are both active members of Mt. Calvary.

I am very interested in serving on the Park Commission for the City of Shorewood!
Here are some highlights of my skills and interests:
. I have lived in Shorewood for 25 years and I regularly use Freeman Park.
. I am a Master Gardener and a Tour Guide at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.
. I do residential and commercial site design for Bolton & Menk Engineers and Surveyors in
Burnsville. I also prepare preliminary landscape plans for these large projects as well as
overseeing the tree inventories and insuring compliance with tree preservation plans in the
communities where my projects are being built. I am often on-site in this capacity.
. My continuing career interests include recreational land use, surface water quality and
management and wetland restoration. (Have you heard about the new Rain Gardens to be built
at the Arboretum?)
. I live at 5495 Valleywood Circle and over the years we have made our lot into our own little
park.
