The Shorewood City Council will hold a special meeting on the following date:

Park Commission Opening!

Dear Park commissioners, Mayor of Shorewood & City council,
This is in response to the Park Commission opening posted in the
ShoREport July 2001. I would be interested in the position for many reasons
primarily to become more involved with the community my family and I live in
and having true concerns with our environment and surroundings. A little
about me. I am a long time resident of the Excelsior Lake Minnetonka area.
Graduated from Minnetonka high school in 1984, working for a few years before
completing my associate's degree in Engineering drafting & design. Worked
for Rollerblade, Inc. in their best years and then on to Medtronic, Inc. In
1999 started my own practice in the Drafting & Design field which I continue
doing now. I am married with one three-year-old son. Bought our house in
Shorewood in late 1998. The property backs up the LRT trail, which my family
uses almost every day on are way to the parks or in some way or another
utilizing the trail. I have often said Ilwhy don't they do this or do thatll?
This opportunity could put some of my ideas into action and take it further.

Dear Mr. Dawson:
I am writing in response to the City's request for interested citizens to work on the Planning
Commission. I would like to be considered for one of the positions.
I have lived in Shorewood since 1993. Between 1983 and 1993, I lived in Orono and Tonka Bay.
I would like to be in a position to provide service to the community where I live.
My experience with volunteer boards includes a stint with the now-defunct West Hennepin
Human Services Planning Board. I was with the board for about 10 years, serving as the board
chair for five of those years. The West Hennepin Board provided strategic planning and service
to and for the non-Minneapolis areas of Hennepin County. My experience included providing
leadership and organizational skills to the 25 member Board of Directors, providing testimony
and information to a variety of governmental and non-governmental organizations, and
volunteering in programs delivered by the agency.
My work experience since 1990 has been with Formative Engineering, a plastic injection molding
company. I owned the company until 2000, and now serve as the President for the corporate
owner. During my tenure, the organization grew from 15 to 85 employees. I am responsible for
all aspects of operating the business.
I believe that my experience with a significant volunteer organization and the operation of a
business will allow me to serve the Planning Commission in several ways. I have experience
successfully working in organizations that bring together people with a diversity of opinions,
objectives and desires. I can digest a large amount of data, providing carefully considered
questions, responses and plans for action within the Commission's operating structure. I am
comfortable working in a public arena.

Shorewood as a member of the Park Commission. In my view, the Park Commission has
been a good example of how to coalesce diverse thought into constructive action such as
Eddy Station, neighborhood trails and the skate park. I look forward to continuing my

To the Mayor and City Council Members of Shorewood:
After learning that there would be positions opening up on the Park Commission, I began to
give some thought to applying for one of the two positions. Here is my request for your
consideration.
First, my reasons for being interested in the job: I have lived in Shorewood since 1987. I
have been a long time advocate for trails both in Minnetonka, my previous residence, and
Shorewood. I have raised 3 children and now have 11 grandchildren that use and enjoy the
parks so I know how important they are to family life. I make frequent use of the parks and
trails myself therefore I would like to be involved in making sure Shorewood has the best park
and trail system possible for our community.
Second, I feel that my occupation as a graphic designer has given me experience in knowing
how to plan detailed projects and work with a variety of people in a cooperative way to get
the job done efficiently and economically. Also as a designer, the aesthetics of a project are
very important to me and I feel that I can contribute ideas that will not only make our parks
useful and fun for young people but also naturally beautiful and relaxed for the enjoyment of
all age groups in our community.
I am willing to donate my time and efforts to the City of Shorewood if you feel that I would be
useful as a member on the Park Commission.

Mayor Love and Council:
My tenn on the Planning Commission is up on January 31, 2002. Please consider this
letter as an application for a full term on the Commission.
I have lived in Shorewood since 1961. I served on the Planning Commission in 1979-
1980 and during 2001. I then filled a vacancy on the City Council for a two year term
and ran for re-election for two subsequent terms.
After my second term in office I decided to put my energies into the Southshore Senior
Center project. This building was finally built and I have served on the Friends of the
Southshore Center Board for the last 10 years.
I think that my last year on the Planning Commission has been a positive one and that the
present Commission is working well together. My experience on the commission and in
the many facets of city government and my years of residence in Shorewood are qualities
that would be a plus to the Planning Commission.
