Ladies and gentlemen:
I wish to apply for the position of representative from the city to the Minnetonka
Community Education and Services Board.
As the present representative for the city to this board, I have the credentials to meet any
reasonable requirements you might set. In keeping with the consensus among city
representatives on the board, we are cUlTently examining and evaluating our functions
and responsibilities to the board and to the cities. In recent years, our functions and
responsibilities to the Board and MCES have changed drastically, and we are working
with MCES staff to establish what our function is to be in the near future. Our role as a
city representative is also being evaluated by our group, and we expect to have firm
guidelines established for each of us by the end of the year.
Because everything is "up in the air", we as a group have not reported to our councils for
over six months.
Nonetheless, I have served on the MCES board since January, 1981. Most of that time I
have been the representative from Shorewood, but I also have represented the school
board, and been an at-large member of the board. I have served as president of the board
for two terms, and feel that I have made significant contributions to MCES and the City
with my service.
At present, I am also on the Mimletonka Foundation for Excellence in Education, serving
my 12th year on that board. I am treasurer and co-founder of the Minnetonka Alumni
Association, and an active leader in the 50-year All School All Class Reunion being held
next July. I am on the board of the Excelsior Historical Society, on the Shorewood Park
Foundation Board, a member of the finance committee at my church, former member of

the stewardship committee, and am president-elect ofthe Excelsior Rotary Club. I also
serve on the board of some private foundations.
I have served 8-plus years as a council member in the City of Shorewood, and served one
term as a member of the Mil1l1etonka School Board. I've been "enlisted" and served on
countless sub-boards and committees during the years.
In my real life, I sell insurance for Shamrock Agencies, a firm that I own. I live in the
eastern part of Shorewood in the home that my wife and I built 30 years ago.
