Dear Jean,
Thank you for sending me the information on the Park Commission. Enclosed is a copy of my resume,
per your request.
I am interested in being considered for service on the Park Commission. I am a 7 year resident of
Shorewood. But that does not tell the whole story. I was born and raised in Deephaven. I left this area
to go to college in Des Moines, as you can see from my resume. After getting married directly after
receiving my degree, my husband and I began a series of moves, all of which were associated with his
employment. We have had homes in the east, the west, and basically raised our two sons in Dallas.
Eight years ago, we decided to make a concerted effort to get back to the midwest and our roots. After
spending a year in Ann Arbor, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to move to Minneapolis. So in
essence, thirty years later, here I am living within a mile from where I grew up. I obviously love the area.
I have no prior experience with city government, as all of my volunteer work has been child related. But I
do believe I have the ability to make a big contribution to my community. As for the reason for interest in
this committee in particular, I feel that the parks and trails are of utmost importance to this community. It
was one of the big reasons we chose this area to live in upon our return to Minneapolis.

Dear Brad:
"Never say never," is something my mother always told me.
Keeping that thought in mind, it's with some wonder that I write you this
note indicating that I would like to be considered for one of the vacancies
on the Shorewood Planning Commission.
As you remember, I served on the Commission from January 1993 through
December 1997, serving as Vice Chair in 1996 and Chair in 1997. During that
time, I believe I distinguished myself with my thoughtful, deliberate,
inclusive, consensus-building approach -- the public may not have agreed
with all the recommendations the Commission reached under my leadership;
however, there was maximal public input before one was made.
I believe our role as Council advisors is to function as a lightning rod for
issues, and that our purpose is to balance the rights of property owners
with broader community objectives, following state law and policy as well as
Council policy in so doing. We seek public input, weigh it and make our
recommendations.
We are 1 Q-year residents of Shorewood. In our previous home in Ohio, I was
also active in land use and community issues, having served on the district
Library Trustee Board and various other development activities -- as with
many who are active in municipal government, I originally got involved years
ago to fight something I ~elt was a violation of trust.
