Paul has been in the financial induslly for over ten years and is currently the Regional Vice
President for Minnesota and Wisconsin in the Wirehouse/Regional Distribution Channel.
Prior to joining lNG, Paul was the Vice President for Retirement Income and Investments
with Genworth Financial (formerly GE Life and Annuity) covering North Dakota, South
Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Paul quickly developed a reputation as a valued seminar
speaker and trusted industry resource, increasing the annuity sales in his territory from under
$2 million to over $31 million in his first year with the firm. Before joining Genworth, Paul
was the National Sales Director for Investments, Separately Managed Accounts, Managed
Products and Brokerage with American Express Financial Advisors (now Ameriprise
Financial and RiverSource Investments) in their Minneapolis, MN world headquarters. In
this capacity, Paul oversaw the internal sales efforts of his respective business units in which
the firm hit record sales levels each year.
Before relocating to Minnesota, Paul spent eight years in Denver, CO where he began his
fl11ancial career with Oppenheimerfunds, Inc. Paul enjoyed a variety of sales and leadership
roles during his tenure with Oppenheimerfunds, specifically on their Director's Council Sales
Desk (FA's with yearly sales over $2,500,000) covering the Pac/Northwest Wirehouse
territory.
In August of 2000, Paul joined Transamerica Capital, Inc. as the Sales Manager for the
Wirehouse East Division sales force in their Denver home office. Paul led their internal sales
efforts in the Variable Annuity Wirehouse/Regional Sales Channel and helped contribute to
yearly sales of$489 million in 2000, $1.1 billion in 2001, $3.4 billion in 2002 and over $4
billion in 2003.
Paul was born in Washington, DC and attended Montgomery College in Rockville, MD and
the University of Maryland, University College in College Park, MD. He and his wife Amy
live in Shorewood, MN with their son Andrew. He loves to read and is an avid history buff.
Paul also enjoys playing golf, snow boarding and hiking with his Weimaraner Griffin.
Paul earned the Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) designation and holds his NASD
Series 6 and 63 registrations as well as his Minnesota, Wisconsin and New York Life,
Accident and Health Licenses.

Dear Mr. Dawson:
It is my understanding that there is an opening on the City of Shorewood Park Commission. I would like
to be considered for that position.
Let me provide you a little background information on myself and why I'd like be an active participant in
the Park Commission.
I'm 44 years old and I recently moved to Shorewood from South Minneapolis with my three children 14,
10 & 10. Previous to that I lived in Chanhassen for several years. I have also lived in Southern California. I
moved back to this area for the wonderful schools and for the quality of life this area affords.
Professionally, I own a small software business and have worked on entrepreneurial endeavors for the
past 12 years. I have a degree in electrical engineering and an MBA, both from the University of
Minnesota. I am also a registered professional electrical engineer (PE).
I have reviewed chapter 202 ofthe City Code detailing the purpose and obligations ofthe commission.
I'm interested in serving on the Park Commission for several reasons. First, is my desire to become
involved in city government for the betterment ofthe city and to improve how it can best serve its
citizens. Shorewood is a wonderful community and I am very interested in becoming more involved in
order to help maintain its charm, vitality, and livability for my family and future generations to come.
Because parks exist serve all of the city's inhabitants I think parks are a strong indicator of the overall
commitment to its citizens. My family and I have been reliable users of the parks in every city we've
lived. In return, I'd like to give something back. Given my background and my passion to help maintain
Shorewood as the outstanding city it is I think I could be a valuable asset to the commission.
