The following summary highlights her experience in several areas: Litigation Ms. Callies has had the opportunity to develop, prepare and/or argue over 200 civil and criminal cases in her career thus far. First chair civil jury trial experience was gained in cases for: . . City of Zumbro Falls- Successful appeal of commissioners' award in a condemnation case; . City of Shakopee- Successful Motion of Limine resulted in dismissal of City as a defendant in Inverse Condemnation Action; . City of Coon Rapids- Declaration of Public Road by Common Law and Statutory Dedication. . City of Shorewood- Successful defense in Inverse Condemnation case. Ms. Callies' expertise has resulted in successful motion practice in both federal and state courts, including pre-trial and discovery issues, and dispositive motions. She has also had extensive experience in taking and defending depositions. . Appellate Practice Ms. Callies has personally argued four cases before the Minnesota Court of Appeals (winning three) and has participated in briefing a number of other such cases. Two of these cases involved condemnation issues; another involved a Conditional Use Permit (successfully defending the City of Wayzata); and another centered on immunity of a Building Inspector (successfully defending the City of Maple Grove). Municipal Prosecution Ms. Callies served as the Prosecutor for the cities of Red Wing (Goodhue Country) and Dayton (Hennepin County) for over three years. In this capacity, she conducted 15 jury trials and over 100 court trials involving traffic citations and misdemearlor violations including assault, DWI and theft. Her duties as Prosecutor included assessment of cases, investigation, settlement negotiations, witness preparation, coordination of police testimony, consultation with City and police officials, drafting of complaints and supervision of the Red Wing branch office. She developed an effective and cooperative working relationship with the law enforcement personnel which resulted in improvement in case development and management. Municipal Representation Ms. Callies has worked closely with the cities of Red Wing, Dayton and Maple Grove as an Assistant City Attorney and is the lead attorney for the Maple Grove Planning Commission. She has provided consultation to City Councils and Staff members on various issues, drafted resolutions and ordinances and has directly represented Cities in hazardous building litigation, assessment appeals and code violations.
