Subject: LMCD Board
January 15, 2008
Dear City of Shorewood,
The purpose of this letter is to express my interest in the LMCD Board Member position for 2008. My family and I have
been residents of Shorewood for the past 14 years and Lake Minnetonka residents for over 25 years.
The lake is the center point of our family's recreational and social activities and has provided an ideal setting for raising
our children. I feel strongly about management of the lake and the need to balance the interests of its users and the
reasonable conservation efforts to preserve and improve it with respect to the environment and safety.
For the past 5 years I have served as a sworn Special Deputy with the Hennepin County Sheriffs Office Water Patrol
Unit. This unit is responsible for over 100 named lakes in the County as well as the 3 major rivers that flow through it.
However, the largest single area of activity is Lake Minnetonka. The majority of my time is spent with Water Patrol is
providing law enforcement, emergency medical and fire fighting responses. We also conduct inspections for special use
and structure permits. I feel that my first hand knowledge from both living and working on the lake provide me with an
extensive and broad perspective of the lake and its users. This balance will assist me in the role as board member for the
city of Shorewood.
My full time occupation is with Northwest Airlines where I work as a pilot. Debbie, my wife is in the Pharmaceutical
industry and our children attend Minnetonka High School. We are long time supporters of the community and have a
commitment to keep the city of Shorewood and Lake Minnetonka a great place to live.
I look forward to discussing the LMCD position with you and ask that you consider me as your 2008 board member.
Sincerely,
Richard Siakel

Subject: Interest in Park Commission board seat
I would like to be considered for the open Park Commission board seat.
My family and I (wife Heather, daughters Anastasia (5), Ivanna (2)) moved to Shorewood in August 2001
and very much value the outstanding quality of life the city offers including the park and recreational
opportunities. I would like to give back to the community and feel I could be a valuable contributor to the
Park Commission's efforts.
Attached is my resume highlighting my professional experience for your review. If you'd like to continue
discussions, please do not hesitate calling me.
